Dispelling Resume Myth - References On Your Resume

Dispelling Resume Myth - References On Your Resume I have to include “References Available Upon Request” on my resume, right? Actually, no you don’t. That statement is really a given. These days, the employer assumes you’ll provide references upon requestâ€"and if they want them, they will request them. So do yourself a couple of favors: 1. Have your references ready. Use a reference sheet that is pretty standard and that you can give out to multiple employers as neededâ€"usually provided at the end of the initial interview. Include each person’s name and phone number at the very least, and how you’re connected. 2. Prep your references. Make sure you not only request their permission to be a reference, but inform them of who may be contacting them and about the type of position you’re applying to. That way, they can already be thinking about all the nice, wonderful, supportive things they want to say about you.
